Causes of Dull Drab Hair

Overexposure to the sun can cause dull hair. But so can overuse of hair-care products, and overprocessing. If your hair is dull and drab, you can restore its luster.

Do you spend a lot of time, money, and effort on your hair, just to find it still looks dull and drab? The problem could be caused from all that coloring, straightening, curling, and styling you expose your hair to.

If you want to prevent dull hair, take a hands-off approach. Too much coloring and bleaching can cause your natural hair color and texture to become dull. The high heat from blow-dryers and curling irons can leave hair brittle. And constant wearing of braids, ponytails, or hair extensions, all of which pull on hair, can lead to hair breakage and split ends.

Too much sun can also be a bad thing: Overexposure to ultraviolet light can fade your hair color and make your hair dry and brittle. This, of course, leads to breakage and split ends. And, contrary to an old wive’s tale, brushing your hair 100 times a day doesn’t give your hair a healthy shine. It actually causes split ends.
